I Had A Dream

While I was sleeping, I had a dream.

I dreamt that my kids rode their bikes to the park after school, playing with friends from all over. Families and neighbors of all colors and stripes came together and lived in harmony. They set aside their differences and celebrated the country they lived in and the opportunities they had been given.

I dreamt that the grass was green, the sky was blue, and my arms were wrapped around my wife as we smiled and sat in the yard watching the kids play ball. Never once did we worry about the upcoming Little League registration fees or the money for the new shoes we had to buy them. Grandma and Grandpa were visiting, enjoying the BBQ and their golden years with the grandkids.

Then I woke up.

The sky was gray. The kids were at school. I was worried about their education and what they were learning. I saw families divided and chaos in the streets. Unity was gone, with Americans pitted against one another. Grandparents and seniors were crushed, watching their retirement lose its value, while moms and dads struggled to make the mortgage and pay the rent—let alone buy new shoes for their kids’ baseball season. Forget about that BBQ. At the grocery store, they had to settle for the “cheaper” option.

Who stole my dream, and how did it happen?

It happened little by little while I was sleeping. Our leaders promised us a steak and left us breadcrumbs. They took our money for smooth roads and left us potholes and empty promises. They promised to help, but voted for higher taxes and higher costs.

It’s time to take our dream back and make it reality. That’s what I’m running for—my dream, our dream, the American dream.
